Copper Tax won his fourth straight race in $100,000 Rocky Run S. at Delaware Park, drawing off to a 6 ¾-length victory to become the first stakes winner for top-10 First-Crop sire Copper Bullet.
Copper Tax was making his stakes debut following a pair of impressive allowance wins in September. The bay colt was also making his two-turn debut. He broke very alertly and had a one-length lead entering the backstretch. He maintained that margin down the backstretch, then began to widen his lead on the final turn. Skipping over the sloppy surface with ease down the stretch, Copper Tax won as much the best in 1:38.35 over the sealed surface.
“He passed the test with flying colors and he finished pretty nice and quick,” said winning trainer Gary Capuano. “He is a pretty special horse. We are going to give him a little bit of a breather for now, but we will see how he comes out of this race and what comes up. He will run on anything and anytime we ask.“
With four wins and a second in five starts, Copper Tax has earned $190,000 for Rose Petal Stable LLC. Copper Tax was bred by Lance Sullenberger and is out of the stakes-placed Wilhelmina.
